STEP ONE: Search for opportunities > Horticulturalist
Food security is a major problem for many inhabitants of rural areas. You can help rural communities to develop dry-season gardening techniques, enabling them to grow adequate food year-round and generate additional income.
We have a limited number of opportunities in countries such as Malawi.
Necessary qualifications and experience
You will need an appropriate qualification and at least two years related experience. You'll need experience of fruit and vegetable growing and knowledge of plants and propagation. Business and bookkeeping skills are also sometimes required.
Types of opportunity available
Horticulturalists often share their knowledge with NGOs, farmers' groups and other organisations. Practical work could include on-farm research or field demonstrations, particularly in low-input or organic farming.
