This is a joint project between VSO, NCSL, NAHT and ASCL. Over the last year VSO has sent two cohorts of NAHT School Leaders to spend a term working along side senior educationalists in two of our programmes - Namibia and Rwanda.
Thanks to funding from the National College for School Leadership we are delighted to announce an expansion of the scheme with more placements to more countries and also incorporating School Leaders who are members of ASCL.
14 overseas placements will take place early in the New Year. Each participating school is eligible for a grant of £5000 towards school cover costs for the duration of their School Leaders secondment. The School Leaders taking part will be eligible to receive the standard VSO remuneration benefits.
The scheme has 3 phases:
- Preparing the schools for the School Leader secondment – discussing with the school’s governors and senior management team how the school leaders management role will be covered. What opportunities it will give the school for internal professional development as well as enabling the school to develop its citizenship / global perspective agenda.
- Spending approximately 12 weeks working alongside senior colleagues in an African country as part of the established VSO education programme.
- Returning refreshed and with new personal and professional skills and to use this experience to maximise the benefit of their experience in their UK school.
If you are a current ASCL/NAHT School Leader (Head, Deputy Head or Assistant Head Teacher) with 7 or more years leadership experience based in a maintained school in England then we would love to hear from you. Find out more using the links below.
When you have to explain how you run something like performance management, you’ve got to work out whether you agree with performance management, ... and you start thinking about what we do here and why we do it, and by converting it into a different context you can review what you value.
Human rights, social justice. I really want to do the whole lot and I don’t really know enough about it yet but I just had my performance management review last night and I’ve chosen a target that my own professional development will be to find out more about it and how to bring it into the curriculum.
