(March 2008)
International development charity VSO has appointed a new Chair to its International Board and two new trustees.
Sir Suma Chakrabarti takes up the role of Chair of the Board. Sir Suma is Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Justice and was previously Permanent Secretary of the Department for International Development. He takes on the role after the departure of Dr Keith Bezanson, who stepped down due to ill health.
VSO’s two new trustees are Hilary Armstrong MP and Mark Astarita, Director of Fundraising at the British Red Cross.
Hilary Armstrong is the MP for North West Durham, and has been involved with VSO since she volunteered with the charity in Kenya in 1966.
Mark Astarita has worked at the British Red Cross since 2003, and was previously the deputy chief executive of the National Deaf Children’s Society.
The new trustees will be overseeing VSO as it moves towards consolidating its international federation structure, and strengthening its national volunteering work, as well as increasing its commitment to diversifying international volunteering.
