News And Ideas > Stories - Photo resource pack to raise awareness of life on Pakistan
Kashifa Akbar, Global Xchange volunteer, became involved in Global Education because she wanted to raise awareness of Pakistani culture amongst school children in the UK.
She decided that the best way to tackle the misunderstandings that currently prevailed was to develop a photo resource pack. She asked children to look at photos and identify whether they were of objects from Pakistan or the UK. This had an almost immediate impact, “simply using photo activities resulted in a change in their attitudes and behaviour” explained Kashifa. “They could see that many things familiar in their own lives, are also familiar to children in Pakistan”. Using simple techniques to enable the children to understand the links between their own lives, and those of children in Pakistan engaged the children, challenged their preconceptions, and encouraged them to start thinking about the global community.
