HIV & AIDS weblog and workshop on Cameroonian life
Rebecca Sinclair volunteered in Cameroon, 2005-2006, working in VSOs education programme. She wanted to raise awareness of development issues affecting Cameroon, so during her placement she posted a monthly diary on the UK United Nations Association’s website and followed this up by running a workshop on Cameroonian life back in the UK.
In her monthly web postings Rebecca wrote about her daily life as a volunteer, described different aspects of local culture and issues affecting her local community, such as HIV & AIDS. When she returned to the UK, she organised a talk about her experiences in Cameroon. Rebecca explained, “The diary entries were a successful way to provide readers with an insight into Cameroonian life. The follow-up workshop allowed people to ask more questions and we raised £500 to set up a girls club in Cameroon, and funding for HIV & AIDS activities in my school”.
