Many of VSO’s partners work with volunteers. Some have systems to manage and make effective use of those that are willing to volunteer, but many do not. VSO is able to draw on its own experience and the experience of others to share examples of good practice in helping partners to manage volunteers within their organisation more effectively and maximize their potential contribution to development.
In the Philippines
Training
VSO’s National Partner Agency VSO Bahaginan has developed a training course in Volunteer management systems that they have run in the Philippines, Mongolia and China. Last year, in partnership with a training institute of Xavier University in Cagayan De Oro, in Mindanao, in the Philippines, this was piloted as a one month module with students from VSO partners in China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vanuatu, PNG and South Africa. VSO is committed to running the course for a three-year pilot period.
Networking and resource sharing
Over the last four years, VSO Bahaginan has been providing support for the development of VOICE, a network of Filipino development-focused volunteer programmes (national, regional and community based). The VOICE network has grown to over 100 members and is establishing itself as an effective and credible voice for volunteering in the Philippines.
