Whilst a key focus of VSO is on support to strengthen VPO’s and VIO’s management of volunteers – this needs to be in the context of a strong organisation. No matter how good the understanding and commitment to volunteering and to developing a strong volunteer management system the volunteering contribution will be adversely affected if the organisation is not as a whole well run.
Youth Star in Cambodia
At the same time that VSO staff have provided technical support to Youth Star to develop recruitment, selection, training and systems for managing volunteers VSO has also placed a two year international Volunteer whose placement is focussed on strengthening Youth Star as an organisation.
GIVE network in Nigeria
VSO staff facilitated a strategic planning workshop for GIVE (Greater Involvement of Volunteer Effort) a new network of volunteer involving organisations in Nigeria. The aim was to help GIVE to develop in to a viable self sustaining and well functioning network that provides clear added value to its members.
