Diaspora Volunteering Alliance (DVA)

At the end of 2007, partners identified the need to create an alliance of organisations to pursue the aim of the Diaspora Volunteering Initiative in a sustainable way in the years to come. In a series of meeting from December 2007 to March 2008, partners developed and agreed shared aim, objectives, values and structure for the Diaspora Volunteering Alliance.

• African Foundation Stone (AFS) focuses on health, secure livelihoods and participation and governance in its programme in Cameroon.
• African Foundation for Development (AFFORD) is currently working in Sierra Leone and Ghana on projects related to secure livelihoods.
• Asian Foundation for Philanthropy (AFP) the Paropkaar programme for British Asians to volunteer in India in areas of education, health, disability, secure livelihood and HIV and AIDS.
• Rebuild Partnership is about medical professionals, working in Nigeria with focus on maternal health and healthcare development.
• African Child Trust (ATC) works in Tanzania and has partnership with DVI focusing on education, participation and governance and HIV and AIDS.
• Asian People’s Disability Alliance (APDA) is working on disability and mental health issues with internally displaced people in Sri Lanka.
• Connect for Change (CfC) works in the education and health sectors in Nepal.
• Widows Orphans Relief and Development International (WORD) has programme on HIV and AIDS and secure livelihood in Zimbabwe.
• African Development Association for Progress (ADAP) is working on health and education issues with the partnership of DVI, VSO in Ghana.

• BRAC UK has programmes in Bangladesh.
• Malawians in Aberdeen (MIA) has focus on health in Malawi.
• Development Impact For Nigeria (DIFN)
