About VSO

Guyana

  • Students and beneficiaries at Crabwood Creek Primary, Corentyne, Guyana, during morning assembly. VSO volunteer, Janis Cushnie, 46, lead a teacher training programme to develop the skills of literacy trainers. She has also been instrumental in rolling out the phonics system of literacy teaching in schools across Region 6.
  • Beneficiary Oshea Bacchus. VSO volunteer Hannah Kay, 33, Speech and Language Therapist, works at Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, Georgetown, Guyana. (Partner: Ministry of Health). The centre supports children with mental and physical disabilities. Hannah supervises and co-ordinates Guyana's Rehabilitation Assistants, including those who work at Ptomely Reid.

  • Beneficiary, school pupil, Julian Ault, at Moco Moco Primary School, Region 9, Guyana. VSO volunteer, Vanessa Dunstan, Special Eduation Facilitator,has trained National Volunteer, Anita Gordon. She works for VSO partner Youth Challenge Guyana which is implementing the National Teacher Voluteers Programme.

  • National Autism Day, Georgetown, Guyana, organised by VSO partner National Commission on Disability (NCD) to develop targeted awareness of autism and disability.
  • Beneficiary Dacia Cassiano, pupil at Moco Moco Primary School, Moco Moco Village, Region 9, Guyana, who's literacy skills have improved as a result of the work of national volunteer Anita Gordon. Anita Gordon works for VSO partner Youth Challenge Guyana which recruits volunteers for the National Teacher Volunteering Programme. VSO volunteer, Vanessa Dunstan, Special Eduation Facilitator, helped train the national volunteers.
  • Beneficiary of National Commission on Disability who organised National Autism Day. The event was intended to develop targeted awareness of autism and disability.
